Membership Newsletters
Historical
Newsletter started in July 1985 after an authorizing vote in June 1985. The reasons favoring a newsletter were, in paraphrase:
- increase communication with the majority of Branch members-those
who do not come to the business meetings;
- enhance effectiveness of collective Branch influence;
- increase prestige;
- more timely dispersal of trip information to Branch members
as publication of the club-wide bulletin lagged submittals by
4Â6 weeks [actually closer to 8 weeks];
- increase participation in club activities.
Original Presentation
The publication of the Newsletter has utilized photocopy and offset
printing. Various weights and colors (white, off-white, green, gray,
blue, pink, orange, tan, purple) of paper have been used with different
inks (black, green, red, rust, purple). Issues 72-92 were printed
on recycled paper. Early issues were laid out by hand with hand
drawn rules. Some pages were crooked in the originals; some have
become crooked in the scanning process. Page layout software was
used for issues after 71.
Web Presentation
When possible, the images of the Newsletters were converted to black
and white, bit-maps to reduce file size. Post-production markings
and artifacts have been removed to some extent. Text missing due
to holes in the paper was replaced with our guesses. Speckles on
the recycled paper contributed to the noise on the scans. New member's
names and phone numbers were sometimes printed in the Newsletters;
these have been removed for privacy. Original artwork was scanned
at higher resolution and will be placed in a separate gallery. Images
or copy with potential copyright problems were removed.
