Backpacking
Backpacks are under the leadership of the Hiking division. Website
pages specific to backpacking are archives,
photos, and trips. The rest of the pages are in common with Hiking.
Backpackers camp overnight, generally in tents, in the
forests and mountains of Washington, while enjoying the company
of other Mountaineers in groups of from three to eight. Many of
us seek the solitude of wilderness, while others are interested
in great views. Still others like the challenge and the fitness
that come from multi-day trips that reach remote destinations
by
trails. Multi-day journeys often have the flexibility that enables
loop trips, where a different route is taken back to the starting
point.
Some also like to set up a basecamp at a good camping location
and then do day hikes to thoroughly explore an area.
Backpacking trips are organized by individual
leaders under the auspices of The Everett Mountaineers Hiking Committee.
Our leaders are experienced backpackers who like to share some of their
favorite trips with others, and explore new places.
To lead backpacking trips for The Everett Mountaineers, leaders
must attend a leader orientation session and lead one hike (not
necessarily a backpack) mentored by an experienced hike leader.
